The Incense Road
Before it reached homes, aloeswood and frankincense moved by caravan out of southern Arabia, priced by weight against gold. Whole cities were built on the trade in scent.
A Quiet Sunnah
Ibn Umar burned aloeswood alone, or camphor blended into it, and said this was the way of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The materials were named. The habit was kept.

Bakhoor moved between people more than through shops. A little wrapped in cloth, handed over at a door, brought back from Hajj for a neighbour. Easy to give, and no one refused it.
A single cone, a little heat, and the smoke does the rest. It settles into the curtains, the cushions, the sleeves of whatever you're wearing, and stays there long after the coal has gone cold.
Light it and sit for a moment. The scent fills the room slowly, the noise drops away, and by the time you stand up you are somewhere calmer than you were.
